From December 31, 2025, Phu Quoc Night Market (also known as Bach Dang Night Market) – a familiar stop for most visitors to the island – has officially ceased operations.

According to information from the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Authority, the local government is proceeding with the termination of the land lease contract for organizing the Bach Dang pedestrian street and night market in accordance with legal regulations.
The contract, signed in September 2015 with a 10-year term, officially expired on December 31, 2025, which means the night market will no longer operate after this date.

The closure is primarily due to legal reasons related to the contract’s expiration, and is also part of a broader plan to review and reorganize urban space in the central Duong Dong area. Over the years, the night market has faced several challenges, including infrastructure limitations, environmental management issues, fire safety concerns, and traffic congestion, especially during peak tourist seasons.

According to local authorities, this move is intended to prepare for the development of new, more modern tourism spaces, aligned with Phu Quoc’s long-term tourism development strategy.

However, the announcement has come as a surprise to many travelers, as Phu Quoc Night Market has long been a popular and familiar stop for visitors to the island.
